Who can I thank for this awesomeness?

Credits

Belon.gs is built by a small team of awesome people from Finland.

Technology

We're using these awesome technologies to make it all possible:

  • The Python programming language
(With thanks to the developer ecosystem, blessing us with packages such as – in no particular order – pip, virtualenv, Babel, pytz, South, lxml, django-social-auth, etc.)
  • The Django web framework
  • ... with copious doses of Jinja2 templating, because – we're not afraid to say it – Django's templates suck.
  • nginx and uwsgi, the Russian-Italian dynamic duo, for serving
  • socket.io + gevent + gevent-socket.io, to power realtime chat
  • MySQL to store most of our data
  • ... but there's a bit of Redis tossed in too
  • And to make it all snappy, memcached is there behind the curtains too
  • jQuery and Underscore.js to make client-side scripting tolerable
  • LESS.css and Bootstrap for styling
  • We're using Debian systems running on Amazon AWS to host our stuff, natch
  • ... Oh, and guess what? Everyone here develops on Windows boxen
  • FUN FACT: We evaluated HTML9 Responsive Boilerstrap JS to app appify the app-friendly iPad appification we had planned to release, but we couldn't get the grit repo attackcloned. (If you're an expert with these things, please shoot us a mail!)
